My name is Carlos Tejo Alonso (aka Tejo). I'm a Software Engineer (expert in Linked Open Data), working remotely as DHIS2/IT Health Consultant of SolidLines. I am based in Asturias, a beautiful region in the north of Spain.

About me

Hello. My name is Carlos Tejo Alonso (aka Tejo). I hold a MSE on Computing Science at the University of Oviedo, and I am living in Asturias, a beautiful region in the north of Spain. Nowaday I'm a Software Engineer (expert in Linked Open Data), working remotely as DHIS2/Health IT Consultant for SolidLines. Formerly, I held the position of Data Officer for Land Portal Foundation (The leading online destination for information, resources, innovations and networking on land issues). Previously, I was a Semantic Web researcher at R&D department of Fundación CTIC.

Short bio

Carlos Tejo-Alonso holds a Master of Science in Engineering on Computing Science from the University of Oviedo. Since 2019, he works as DHIS2/Health IT Consultant for Solid Lines company, helping organizations to take better decisions from better data. During more than 5 years, he worked as Data Officer at Land Portal Foundation. Previously, and during 7 years, he was working at Fundación CTIC as a research assistant of the Semantic Technologies Unit in the R&D Department, and has taken part in several national and European R&D projects and initiatives. He has experience in various areas of Computer Science such as Semantic Web, Open Data, Linked Open Data, Metadata, Standards, Software Design and Development, Human-Computer Interaction or interoperability. He has received several awards for his academic performance.

Projects involved

GODAN Action: GODAN Action is a three year project to enable data users, producers and intermediaries to engage effectively with open data in the agriculture and nutrition sectors. In particular we work to strengthen capacity, to promote common standards and best practice and to improve how we measure impact. Project supported by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
AGROVOC: AGROVOC is a controlled vocabulary covering all areas of interest of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, including food, nutrition, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, environment etc. It is published by FAO and edited by a community of experts.
ONTORULE: The objective of ONTORULE is to integrate all the required pieces of knowledge and technology, including some that will need be researched and developed within the project, to allow exactly that:the acquisition of ontologies and rules from the most appropriate sources, including natural languagedocuments; their separate management and maintenance; and their transparent operationalisation in IT applications. ONTORULE (ONTOlogies meet business RULEs) is a large-scale integrating project (IP) partially funded by the European Union's 7th Framework Programme under the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Call 3 (ICT-231875).
SERENOA: Serenoa is aimed at developing a novel, open platform for enabling the creation of context-sensitive service front-ends (SFEs). This project has received funding from the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement nº 258030 (FP7-ICT-2009-5. Internet of Services, Software and Virtualization – STREP).
DISASTER: The project target outcome is an integrative and modular ontology for establishing a common knowledge structure between all the first responders involved in an emergency, but being compliant with legacy international data formats exchanged in the European Union as long as being seamlessly integrated within current SOA-based Emergency Management Systems. This project has received funding from the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement nº 285069
FOODIE (FP7 Project): FOODIE (Farm-Oriented Open Data in Europe) project is to create a cloud based platform where spatial and non-spatial interoperable data related to agricultural sector will be available for agri-food stakeholder groups. It will offer an infrastructure for building an interactive and collaborative network; the integration of existing open datasets related to agriculture; data publication and data linking of external agriculture data sources, providing specific and high-value applications and services for the support of planning and decision-making processes.
SRD: Share Research Data is a platform for data-collection and scientific research which is based on the Linked Data philosophy for the organization and management, allowing to generate new information based on previous knowledge saved. This project is being funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the program INNPACTO in 2012 call under agreement IPT-2012-0498-430000.
VULCANO: Promotion of free software development in an environment of quality and reliability by adapting the methodologies, processes, business models and latest technologies.
INFOTERNERA: INFOTERNERA project aims to develop an information system that provides support for the actors to manage all processes related to the production, distribution and sale of beef meat in Asturias region. This project is funded by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the Operational Programme for R&D by and for the benefit of Companies - Technology Fund, 2007 -2013 (Project No.: IDI-20110847).
CETICA: The CETICA "Eco-logic tech-city: industrialization based steel for a more sustainable urban environment" project aims to develop new and advanced materials and construction systems based on steel and other multi-material components for a new model of eco-efficient building energy. This project is funded by the CDTI CENIT 2007-2010 program (Ministry of Science and Innovation).
Biolingüística: Technical support in the project "Biolinguistics: genetic basis, development and evolution of language" (Ref. HUM 07 - 60427/FILO).

Software (Open Source)

Parrot: Parrot is A RIF and RDF Ontologies documentation Tool. It provides users (both business users and developers) with useful reference documentation about rulesets and ontologies expressed in standard languages, such as OWL and RIF. Developed under FP7 ONTORULE project.
SKOSIC: SKOSIĆ is a Open Source SKOS Viewer, used to view the vertical modules generated in FP7 DISASTER project.
DCAT viewer: DCAT viewer is a viewer of DCAT (Data Catalog Vocabulary), an RDF vocabulary designed to facilitate interoperability between data catalogs published on the Web.
DISASTER tools: Set of tools developed in FP7 DISASTER project, including Disaster mediation component.
tapinos: Tapinos is a set of tools developed to visualize statistical data expressed in RDF Data Cube vocabulary. Included: tapinos-js, tapinos-rdf-ws, tapinos-maplab-ws and tapinos-grails-demo
tabels: TABELS (Tabular Cells) is a tool to bridge the gap between tabular formats and linked data.
carfo: Context Adaptation Reference Framework Ontology (CARFO)s generated in FP7 SERENOA project.
su4j: SPARQL Utilities for Java (su4j).
RIFLE: Suite of tools for RIF Core and PRD.
Linked Open Colors: Linked Open Colors, dataset created for the April Fools' Day of 2011 as an informal initiative for promoting Linked Data.
SPARQL Endpoint interface to Python (SPARQLWrapper): This is a wrapper around a SPARQL service. It helps in creating the query URI and, possibly, convert the result into a more manageable format.
WodiDoc: An innovative tool to create composite documents from heterogeneous sources.
REST-in-py: A Python library to easily create REST interfaces for web applications.
EZWeb Gadget map: A gadget of google maps for the platform EzWeb.

2015 Libro. 25 rutas de cicloturismo de alforjas por Asturias. [Español]: Esta publicación recoge 25 rutas (escogidas entre todo el catálogo de rutas de Asturies ConBici), para descubrir Asturias en bicicleta, permitiendonos hacer turismo de una manera más tranquila y relajada. Este trabajo es una continuación de los esfuerzos de esta asociación para promover el uso de la bicicleta para salidas y excursiones no competitivas, el cicloturismo de alforjas como una manera alternativa de viaje y disfrute de la naturaleza. Este libro se ha realizado en colaboración con la Sociedad Pública de Gestión y Promoción Turística y Cultural del Principado de Asturias.
